FCU CHALLENGE FROM DAY 16 TO DAY 18 : BUILD A HOUSE IN 30 DAYS

MY HOMESCHOOLING JOURNAL

DAY 16 :
7 OCTOBER, 2010.

Since we decided to change our plan of the house, the work became double. To make a creative house that different from ordinary house would take time.

Making the form works was one of the most difficult task for me. It involved measuring, accuracy and cutting.

To make these iron skeletons we needed a larger space area. Again..the accuracy in measurement played the most important role. All iron skeletons must be in the same size.
The form works being carried to the site. It was quite heavy.

At last, the first form work was put upright, perpendicular to the beam of the floor

DAY 17 :
8 OCTOBER, 2010.
At this stage, most of our activities were dealing with the pillars. At first, making the iron skeleton pillars. Later, stood them upright with the concrete. Covered the whole length of the skeleton with form works. And....nailed them with supporters .

We started early in the morning. I meant...earlier than usual. We had to cover back the time that we lost to the rain. So...The agenda for day 17 was putting all the form works in their place. I helped my brother with the second one.

By the mid-day, almost all the form works were stood upright to the floor beam. The heat from the sun really burnt our skin and our face freaking bad.

What were they doing up there? The lower one held the form work and the upper one nailed the form work. It needed two people in order get the best result.

A quick way to check the level of the plank. Everything must be perpendicular to each other.

We had to put supporters around the frame work so that it can hold  the concrete.

DAY 18 :
9 OCTOBER, 2010.
Its been days we tried to contact the soil dealers around Langkawi. They were running out of soil completely. Absolutely,  without soil we couldn't  continue our work. The problem was serious and time was running out. Pray to Allah.....Hoped that everything will be all right.

We kept on working on the supporters. It really took time even to finish one  of it. This was our first time did all these. I could say that we were just in track. After all the effort, we left the rest to Allah.

Alhamdulillah...at last we managed to buy three lories of soil. Everybody was happy.

We just piled the soil at the car park since we didn't have enough space in the garden.

We scraped  all the soil, not even a scoop of it left on the ground.

The last trolley of soil. We managed to filled up all the floor area with soil. The next phase was to compact the soil together and formed a hard soil floor.

This big concrete cylinder was very heavy. We used it to compact the soil floor. My brother lifted the concrete cylinder with all his strength.

He lifted it as high as he could. You have to be very careful not to drop it on your feet, bro!!

And...just dropped it on the soil floor. The impact from the heavy dropped, the soil being compacted . The process being repeated many times in order to get a hard compact floor.

FCU CHALLENGE FROM DAY 13 TO DAY 15 : BUILD A HOUSE IN 30 DAYS

MY HOMESCHOOLING JOURNAL

DAY 13 :
4 OF OCTOBER, 2010.

On day 11, the whole day was pouring by a heavy rain and even some thunder storms. That didn't matter me much since FCU guys were on tournament at Tiara Hotel. But...if the raining kept on pouring for many days, of course we couldn't do much. Time was running so fast. Nearly half of the month gone already. We were working hard to achive the target. For a time being, everything was on track.

We had to make lots of form works for the floor. All the measurements must be accurate. Until now, I knew a lot of thing about house making.

Almost all the outer side of the iron skeletons had covered by form works. We had to work really fast to cover all the inside part. Making floor of the house was the next step.

The form works must be perpendicular to the ground. If we didn't put them in a right way, the floor would follow the shape of the form works.

Curi tulang?? Of course not. Just take a short rest under the shade of mango tree. The heat of the sun rays was so unbearable. Give a credit to my brother Tajrid for being so hard working.

DAY 14 :
5 OCTOBER, 2010.

What was he doing? Searching for something? He made a thoroughly check up on the form works before adding cement in it.

At last.....we managed to put all the form works in time. Hoping that the whether was fine because the rain water could easily filled up any holes included the form works. That would be very unfortunate.

We had to put cement in all form works.

In order to get a perfect cement, my brothers used iron bars to punch the thick, gray mixture.

Keep on checking......better than making mistakes. No point of regretting things later on!!!

It was getting dark. We had to finish it by hook or crook since cement would harden very quickly.

The whole load was very heavy. Tried to finish before solat Maghrib. At this time, we were praying that...no rain please, until the concrete harden.

DAY 15:
6 OCTOBER, 2010.

Alhamdulillah, It seemed that the concrete harden perfectly.

Must cleared all unwanted concrete before proceeded to the next stage. Again....did the measuring!

The head of FCU made a visit to our site. He studied our plan and the type of house that we were going to build. The house that we were going to build was very simple. I meant...just an ordinary house.
HE CHANGED THE PLAN!!!

FCU CHALLENGE FROM DAY 10 TO DAY 12 : BUILD A HOUSE IN 30 DAYS

MY HOMESCHOOLING JOURNAL

DAY 10 :
1 OF OCTOBER, 2010.
Officially Monson Barat Daya that started in Mei was ended by the early of October. This meant that the down season in Langkawi was ended after five months poured by a heavy rain. It was a good news for tourism sectors.

On day 10, we started to attach the horizontal iron bar skeleton between the pillars.

All these were about iron. Iron bars, iron rods and iron wires. Everything must be attached tightly.
The play wood was being cut into pieces.  We were going to make form works that will hold the cement around the pillars. The dust from the play wood really bothered me....I should put on the face mask like my brother on the first place.

DAY 11 :
2 OF OCTOBER, 2010.

On day 10, FCU got the invitation from Langkawi Sepak Raga Club to join the close competition that would be held on the next day. How about our project? Would we sacrifice our precious time to this competition that we never prepared? Since it was a special request from the chairman of the club, FCU sent its three best players to colour the tournament. Of course,.......I was not included.

TIARA HOTEL...where the tournament took place. It was a big hotel. I liked the whole design of the hotel. Just like a palace in a fairytale. The back view of hotel was a natural garden of mangrove trees around a big lake. In the front of the Tiara Hotel was the magnificent sea view that for sure everybody loved it.

Me....amongst the sepak raga players. They came from all over Langkawi. Of course..I was not in FCU TEAM. Am I the youngest of all? I guess so since I am the smallest of all.

FCU team was in red T-Shirt. Ready to strike!!

I was proud of all of you. GO..FCU GO...!!!  My three elder brothers managed to win the first game. Good enough for those who seldom practice.....!!!
My brother Tajrid and me were FCUPRODUCTION crew. We were here to help FCUPRODUCTION MANAGER to take videos of the tournament. It was great to have a change....at least a day from the house project.
As a crew, we had to follow him every where...upstairs and downstairs. Yes sir!! No complained.

I was setting a dolly track for production manager to shoot the video clips.
We were shooting from the second foor of the hotel.
Happy to view our video on the tournament.

DAY 12 :
3 OF OCTOBER, 2010.

For a few days we were doing the same thing..iron skeleton pillars. This was the most important part of a building. We could get different grade of iron. The cheap one or the more expensive one. Better used the expensive one. Just in case of emergency...I mean the earthquake...the house would stand any consequence, Insyaallah. Just be prepared !!

Almost all the pillars were attached by the horizontal iron skeletons.

The next step was putting the form works around the horizontal iron skeletons.

FCU CHALLENGE FROM DAY 7 TO DAY 9 : BUILD A HOUSE IN 30 DAYS

MY HOMESCHOOLING JOURNAL

DAY 7 :
28 OF SEPTEMBER, 2010.

It was already a week since we launched the challenge. All the members were very positive with the success. Last 6 days were really hot when the sun shone brightly direct on our heads. So....the rain on the 7 day stopped our job for a while. Time was running so fast...hoping the whether will be on our side.
Around eleven o'clock in the morning, a heavy rain poured Kampung Bakau for about one hour. Later the sun was shining again but....all the holes were filled up with water. What could we say ? Sometimes we had to face such unwelcome situation.
Together we dried up all the holes and proceed the plan. It was time to stand up the skeleton of the pillar in the hole.

This was my part. Piled up the sand for my brother to mix with cement. Up to this stage, I already grabbed the basic knowledge of building a house. I felt so fortunate for being homeschooled. This was a real life lesson.
The cement that had been mixed with sand being poured into the hole.  This cement would hold the iron skeleton in place.
My brother used a long iron bar to press the cement before it started to become a hard solid base.

DAY 8 :
29 OF SEPTEMBER, 2010.

The iron bars being cut into small pieces. Later we bent it into a square shape. We need hundreds of them in order to make an iron skeleton pillars. This process was not easy. It needed a strong hand like my  brother. The iron bar was really hard.

Rows of square iron bars being tied up to four bigger iron bars. This was an iron skeleton pillar that we glued into a deep hole with cement.
Two of the skeleton iron pillars were put in its place. We need more and more of the pillars to build a house.
One..two...three....action!!!
Another video shooting session......It became part of our life already!!

What happened to my favourite hangout place? My brothers cut some of the branches in order to stand up the iron skeleton pillars. What to say? At least...there were still another 3 branches left for me. I still can pick the fruits through the window when this double storey house is fully finish.

DAY 9 :
30 OF SEPTEMBER, 2010.
Nine days already? Oh my God... the time was running so fast. Anyhow, we were doing well so far. Just prayed so that the sun kept on shining to give us all the chances.

All the pillars were successfully planted upright. Thanks to Allah for all these possibilities.
What on earth they were doing? A kind of conspiracy ? Of course not...Project Manager and his assistant were discussing about the plan of the house.

So this was the plan of the house.
My brother was measuring the play wood to make the mold for the floor of the house.
This was one of my favourite task.... putting the cement into this big mixer . It really made a very loud sound. This mixer made our job easier and faster.
Due to lack of space in front of our house, we had to place the mixer at the car park. It was a few blocks from our house. After mixed the cement, I had to bring the mixture to the site project.
Helping my brother to measure the iron bar. All the measurement must be accurate. Otherwise, we were wasting the material just like that. All I knew...iron bar was very expensive.
Everybody seemed busy with their own task. The scheduled job must be done on time.
It was time to stopped the work. Cleaned all the tools and kept them safely in the storeroom. Took bath and got ready for maghrib prayer. Hooray..Let's call it a day!!
